To ensure that you are correctly and continually sharing your location, there are a few settings that Glympse suggest enabling. When you initially downloaded Glympse, the app should have requested permissions to several items on your device, but in the event that permissions were not given correctly, or if they change at any point, please check the following items to ensure they are set as listed below.
Battery Optimization
Starting with Android 7.0, Google updated a feature called Doze to improve battery performance and optimization. This feature can impact apps such as Glympse that rely on doing work while the app is in the background. To ensure Glympse continues to share your location after you put the app in the background or turn of the screen, we recommend allowing Glympse to ignore battery optimizations.
Glympse will ask for this permission when you first share your location. Select Yes when this dialog appears to allow Glympse to work correctly in the background.
This setting can also be changed in the App Info screen for Glympse.
Location Permission
For accurate location sharing Glympse needs permission to receive your precise location while the app is in use. The app will prompt for this permission when it is first launched.
If you need to check or update this setting it can be found on the App Info screen for Glympse.
Notification Permission
Glympse asks for permission to display notifications so that it can display a notification while you are sharing your location. This notification helps you see your sharing status while the app is in the background and it serves an important purpose related to how Android allows apps to behave when they are put in the background. Starting in Android 11 apps are required to display a notification to reliably have access to your location while the app is in the background.
Glympse asks for this permission when the app is first launched.
If you need to check or update this setting it can be found on the App Info screen for Glympse.
