Glympse battery demands vary depending on the following circumstances:
- When Glympse is open in the foreground and actively sharing
- When Glympse is in the background and actively sharing
- When Glympse is open in the foreground, but not actively sharing
- When Glympse is in the background and not actively sharing
The "Allow share from extension" in Glympse Settings allows you to utilize the Glympse Extension in iMessage or the Glympse companion app for Apple Watch. If this option is turned on, then the Location Services icon may be on even if you are not actively sharing location. This requires very little battery usage. Apple iOS requires the Glympse parent app to remain in a 'keep alive' state in order for the iMessage or Apple Watch extension to function properly. If you force close the app while Glympse is in the background, the Location Services icon will remain ON, which may give the user the impression that Glympse is tracking them and consuming power, however this is not the case.
Unfortunately, at this time, this is an iOS limitation. If you are currently not using an Apple Watch or using the iMessage extension, ensuring that the “Allow share from extension” option is toggled off will disable the Location Services icon while not actively sharing your location.
